what you’ve been waiting for

As soon as we decided to adopt, we started the name game. We looked at a few lists, kept an eye out for names in movies, and thought of a few on our own. We sat outside of Snarf’s eating sandwiches and writing down our favorites.

Theo was our first pick for a boy. It means “God’s gift,” which he and his brother absolutely are. We love how it sounds, and we love how everyone will know how to spell it. It sounds a little bit spunky to us, and if you’d see pictures of this boy, you’d know it fits him. We didn’t even have a second pick boy name, since the wonderful idea of twins had been pushed far from our minds.

We pulled out our list again when we learned we would be parents to two super cute little boys. Elliot came easily. We seriously didn’t even talk about it. It goes well with Theo, in our opinion,  and it means “my God is Lord.” A simple statement we’ve been reminded of over and over again during this process. To us, the name Elliot is sweet, but masculine. And this little guy looks so sweet in his pictures, always sucking his fingers. We chose the most common spelling with two Ts and one L.

We can’t post their middle names publicly, because they were their given surnames, but we will as soon as they’re home! Their middle names each flowed perfectly with their first names, because they have similar sounds. We didn’t really have to dwell on who would be who.

We love how their name meanings combined make a proclamation about us and our family. We believe God is our Lord, and we believe He gives good gifts… Kids! Twins! Boys! Adoption!

Ok, so… Elliot can bond with Violet over finger sucking. :) And if we ever have a son, he can bond with Theo– because they’ll have the same name!!! I love it!! Theo’s been our number one boy name since we got married! (Theophilos, actually. But that’s just for a diploma, etc. :) So excited for y’all– LOVE your names and will keep praying for your sweet boys!
